Senegal has a population over 16 million inhabitants. Senegal’s 2016 macroeconomic performance was at the highest it has been over a period of 12 years— with a growth rate of 6.6%. This rate makes Senegal the second fastest growing economy in West Africa and the fourth fastest in Sub-Saharan Africa. This is largely due to high production in the fishing and agricultural industries, although other sectors, such as the tourist and
extractive industries have also increased their output. This economic growth follows the implementation of the phase II of Senegal Emergent Plan (PSE), The Plan to make Senegal an emergent country.
